Launch Press Release

GLENWOOD ENTERPRISES EXPAND WORKSPACE PROVISION

Glenwood Enterprises Ltd have announced plans to construct a further extension to their workspace provision on a site adjacent to their centre in the Springbank Industrial Estate in West Belfast.

The £750,000 extension is being supported by the International Fund for Ireland (£339,500) and the Department of Enterprise Trade and Investment under Peace II (£178,000) with the balance being provided by Glenwood Enterprises Ltd.

Part of the 1.8 acre site will be developed to provide 12,000 sq ft of flexible workspace in three blocks of 4,000 sq ft which can be sub-divided into six 2,000 sq ft units if required.

Glenwood Enterprises hope in the future to develop the remainder of the site in the form of serviced sites for businesses wishing to build their own units.

Currently the Centre provides 70,000 sq ft of workspace in the form of 60 units occupied by 34 businesses providing in excess of 300 jobs.

Congratulating the company on their plans for a Phase V extension International Fund for Ireland Board Member Helen Kirkpatrick said, “This project builds on the successful track record of the Glenwood Enterprises in attracting investment and employment into the area through a range of phased initiatives providing industrial and commercial workspace.  Their efforts over the years to promote entrepreneurship and to develop a thriving, competitive and innovative small business sector really have made a difference.”

Maeve Hamilton, PEACE II Programme Manager from the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment which administered the PEACE II funding said, “It is widely recognised that the workplace provides an ideal environment in which to bring together people from different community backgrounds and by doing so many of the barriers to reconciliation can be overcome.  The economic transaction of Northern Ireland to a more stable, peaceful and prosperous society needs to be supported through development of the local economic infrastructure.  This project is a further step in Glenwood Enterprises’ progress in achieving just that.

Providing the infrastructure to support business start-up is a vital first step and will provide these ventures with the solid roots required to allow them to evolve and grow.  Our aim is to help create successful indigenous enterprises that will provide both economic wealth and confidence within disadvantaged communities.”

Garry Cullen, Chairman of Glenwood Enterprises said, “I am delighted to make this announcement in this the year we celebrate twenty years in local economic development.
The extension to our workspace reflects a growing confidence in the Colin area, where a positive and entrepreneurial spirit thrives and where small businesses seek to expand and develop.
In this spirit of enterprise we are joined by our economic development partners in IFI and DETI / Peace ll, whose financial assistance not only makes this possible but also endorses our vision for a future where economic regeneration and neighbourhood renewal are priorities.
On behalf of the Board I would like to thank our funders and to acknowledge the contribution over two decades of past and present staff and Directors.”
